Reuters reported from a U.S. court filing that UEFA asked a federal court for permission to obtain testimony and documents from FIFA (AMERICAS), Inc. and FWC2026 US, Inc., two Florida-based FIFA entities. UEFA said the requested material would be used for a contemplated criminal complaint in Switzerland against FIFA president Gianni Infantino and potentially other FIFA officials and advisers.
The Associated Press separately reported that UEFA filed an application in Manhattan seeking discovery from Thrive Capital Management. These are U.S. evidence-gathering applications for a possible future Swiss proceeding, not a Swiss charge, prosecution or judgment.
WHAT UEFA’S LAWYERS ALLEGE
The filings concern the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal and the way UEFA alleges it was structured, valued, financed and presented. UEFA’s lawyers argue that the circumstances may amount to criminal mismanagement under Article 158 of the Swiss Criminal Code. That is an allegation advanced by UEFA’s legal representatives, not a finding by InFIFAntiNo or a court.
Reuters says the Florida entities may hold witnesses and records relevant to the proposal. AP reports that Thrive Capital was intended to be an anchor investor. The requests seek evidence about the earlier process; they do not themselves prove that the proposed price was improper, that Infantino personally benefited or that any offence occurred.
FIFA FORWARD ENTERPRISE CONTEXT
The proposal would have placed commercial rights connected to the men’s and women’s World Cups and the Club World Cup in a new FIFA subsidiary. FIFA withdrew the project after opposition from confederations and other football stakeholders.
FIFA previously acknowledged mistakes, apologised for how the process was handled and promised a review, while also saying its actions complied with the FIFA regulatory framework. FIFA had originally presented the proposal as a development instrument. Those earlier statements are relevant background, not a response to the new U.S. applications.
CURRENT RESPONSE AND LEGAL STATUS
Reuters said it contacted FIFA for comment, and AP reported that spokespeople for FIFA and Thrive had been approached. In the official FIFA materials reviewed by InFIFAntiNo on 27 August 2026, no specific public response to these new discovery applications was identified.
The sources do not establish that a Swiss criminal complaint has already been filed, that prosecutors have opened or completed a case, that Infantino has been charged, or that any court has found criminal mismanagement, fraud, personal enrichment or other wrongdoing.
