The joint statement from six Nordic associations recorded lost confidence and demands for independent governance reviews. AP and Reuters independently confirmed that statement. AP and Reuters also reported that UEFA president Aleksander Čeferin ruled out standing for the FIFA presidency himself but expected Infantino to face a challenger if he seeks re-election. BBC Sport and The Irish News reported that the Irish Football Association withdrew its support and would not back Infantino in the 2027 election. With Northern Ireland’s announcement, the football associations of England, Scotland, Wales, the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland have each publicly withdrawn support. This is a documented regional pattern, not a global vote.

The FIGC officially withdrew its support for Infantino's 2027 candidacy, and the Romanian Football Federation then formally decided not to support him for another term. Reuters separately reported European Leagues president Claudius Schäfer's view that leadership and institutional reform require another president. These are documented positions, not an election result or a resolution proved to have been adopted by every European association, league or club.

L’Équipe reports that French Football Federation president Philippe Diallo personally opposes Infantino's re-election but will put the institutional position to the FFF Executive Committee on 10 September. His personal position is not presented here as a completed FFF decision.

THE SEPARATE BOYCOTT QUESTION

On 27 August, UEFA officially provisionally suspended the planned non-participation of European teams in FIFA competitions after saying FIFA had confirmed in writing that FIFA Forward Enterprise was irrevocably and permanently withdrawn and would not return in another form. UEFA says the immediate participation question is resolved, but the position remains under constant review and may be reconsidered immediately.

The provisional suspension is not evidence that UEFA or its associations have restored political support for Infantino or support his candidacy in 2027. Participation in FIFA competitions, governance criticism, legal action and positions on the FIFA presidency remain different questions.

Reuters and AP report that UEFA filed U.S. discovery applications seeking material for a contemplated Swiss criminal complaint concerning the abandoned FIFA Forward Enterprise proposal. The Florida request concerns two FIFA entities; AP also reports a Manhattan request involving Thrive Capital Management.

UEFA's lawyers allege possible criminal mismanagement. Those allegations are not court findings. The applications do not establish that a Swiss complaint has already been filed, that Infantino has been charged or convicted, that he personally benefited, or that any proposed price was fraudulent. The legal evidence-gathering process and the separate boycott question can move in different directions without contradiction.

GOVERNANCE REFORM AND STATED SUPPORT

In official FIFA communication, Infantino presented his leadership and FIFA's strategy as a way to widen opportunities, access and resources while narrowing the development gap between wealthier and less wealthy football nations. Reuters reported that Samuel Eto’o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation, publicly defended Infantino. Their statements sit alongside the separate call for leadership and structural change shared by other named players, showing a divided former-player picture rather than one collective verdict.

Earlier Reuters reports recorded support from Argentina and Mexico and from six Arab associations including Qatar and Morocco. Public opposition from other associations and regional groups also remains part of the record.

INFIFANTINO ANALYSIS

World football does not speak with one voice. The record now contains stronger public opposition, a stated expectation of an election challenger, divided positions among named former players, UEFA's legal escalation, FIFA's development-based defence and current institutional support from SAFF and others.
