THE OFFICIAL STATUS CHANGE
On 27 August 2026, UEFA published the outcome of the Monaco meeting. After consultation with its national associations, UEFA provisionally suspended the planned non-participation of European teams in FIFA competitions in the coming season.
The position remains under constant review and may be reconsidered immediately if circumstances change. The suspension is therefore provisional, not a permanent abandonment of the boycott option.
WHAT FIFA CONFIRMED IN WRITING
UEFA says FIFA confirmed in writing that FIFA Forward Enterprise had been irrevocably and permanently withdrawn and would not reappear under another name, structure or form. The official UEFA statement records those written assurances; the FIFA letter itself is not reproduced on the page.
PARTICIPATION RESOLVED; GOVERNANCE NOT
UEFA says the immediate question of European participation is resolved, but the underlying crisis is not. Those present called for a genuinely independent external review of the failed project and unanimously mandated continued institutional, political and legal routes towards governance reform.
The statement also separates football development from the personal power of a president and says world football needs new leadership and, if Infantino seeks another mandate, a credible alternative. These are positions expressed by the participants in the statement, not a named candidacy or a new individual vote by every UEFA association.
WHAT THIS DOES NOT MEAN
The provisional suspension does not establish renewed political support for Infantino, support for his 2027 candidacy, restored trust, withdrawal of the separate legal preparations, an end to governance criticism or a permanent end to the boycott option.
The separate record concerning UEFA's preparations for a contemplated Swiss criminal complaint remains an independent legal and procedural issue.
