WHAT THE FRF DECIDED

The Executive Committee of the Romanian Football Federation (FRF) voted on 26 August 2026 not to support Gianni Infantino for another term as FIFA president. A separate official record of the committee meeting says the decision was unanimous. AGERPRES also recorded the FRF position in its daily news review.

THE GOVERNANCE REASONS

The FRF linked its decision to what it described as the non-transparent handling of FIFA Forward Enterprise. It said the process lacked an appropriate and transparent framework for dialogue with national associations and FIFA Council members.

The federation argued that turning a fundamental football competition into a product for investment funds would conflict with the mission of protecting football development. These are the FRF's stated assessments of the proposal and process.

WHAT THIS DOES NOT ESTABLISH

The FRF decision does not remove Infantino from office, call for his immediate resignation, identify or endorse another candidate, establish a UEFA-wide election position or determine the result of the March 2027 election.

Public support for Infantino also remains documented, including support reported from CAF, individual associations and Samuel Eto’o. Romania's decision adds one confirmed association position but does not establish a majority among FIFA's 211 member associations.
