WHAT THE FIGC ANNOUNCED
The Italian Football Federation (FIGC) officially announced on 26 August 2026 that it had withdrawn its support for Gianni Infantino's candidacy in the FIFA presidential election scheduled for March 2027. Corriere della Sera independently reported the announcement.
THE PRINCIPLES IT SET OUT
FIGC president Giovanni Malagò said Italy would continue working alongside UEFA and other European associations for a football model based on merit, solidarity, sustainability and the central role of fans.
The official statement also described consultation, listening and shared responsibility as principles for football's governance and development.

WHAT THIS DOES NOT ESTABLISH
The statement does not call for Infantino's immediate resignation, name or endorse another candidate, or determine the election outcome. Its reference to the central role of fans is not an endorsement of InFIFAntiNo or either petition linked by this project.
Public support for Infantino also remains documented. The FIGC decision is one association's confirmed position and does not establish a majority among FIFA's 211 member associations.
