WHAT WAS CONFIRMED

Gianni Infantino’s official account confirms that he met a Nigerian delegation at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich on 1 September 2026 to discuss institutional, governance and development issues. The Nigeria Football Federation says representatives of FIFA, CAF, Nigeria’s National Sports Commission and the NFF agreed to continue work on a reform roadmap.

The CONFIRMED label applies to the meeting, the publication of the official statements and the topics those statements describe. It does not establish a completed or approved roadmap, a normalisation committee, a new election timetable or independent confirmation of every procedural claim made by the NFF.

THE ZURICH MEETING

Infantino said the delegation was led by National Sports Commission chairman Shehu Dikko and that the discussion covered institutional, governance and development topics, ongoing cooperation, stronger football structures, player pathways, youth development and areas where FIFA could support growth.

The NFF’s account names FIFA, CAF, the National Sports Commission and the federation as participants. It says they agreed to continue engagement and refine a short-, medium- and long-term roadmap. That wording describes an ongoing process, not a final plan or a completed governance settlement.

WHAT THE NFF SAYS ABOUT THE ROADMAP AND RESIGNATIONS

The NFF says FIFA accepted the resignations of the federation’s president and other principal officers. Channels Television reports the same point as an NFF statement. Neither source turns that institutional claim into an independently published FIFA decision, and Infantino’s meeting statement does not address the asserted acceptance of the resignations.

WHAT REMAINS OPEN

The reviewed records do not set out a final roadmap, its membership or mandate, an implementation timetable, a new NFF election schedule or the creation of a FIFA normalisation committee. Nigeria’s presidency had earlier directed a comprehensive football-reform process and consultation with FIFA and CAF; that national directive does not itself establish FIFA approval of a particular governance structure.

In the dated official materials and reporting reviewed by InFIFAntiNo on 2 September 2026, no separate FIFA or CAF publication confirming a final roadmap or a normalisation committee was identified. This is a bounded public-source finding, not a claim that no further or non-public discussions exist.

TRACKER AND ELECTION SCOPE

None of the new statements expresses support for or opposition to a candidate for the 2027 FIFA presidency. They do not renew, withdraw or otherwise change the reported Nigerian association position already recorded in the support tracker.

Nigeria therefore remains one reported actor with its existing tracker scope and is excluded from the official counters. The Zurich meeting is not evidence of a voting commitment, a forecast of the 2027 election or a position held by all African associations.
