THE KNVB’S NEW 2027 POSITION
On 30 August 2026, the Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) published a statement saying FIFA needs new leadership from 2027 onwards. The statement builds on the KNVB’s 1 August loss of confidence in Gianni Infantino’s leadership and adds a clear position about who should lead FIFA from 2027.
InFIFAntiNo classifies this as official non-support for continued Infantino leadership in the 2027 term. The classification follows the association’s own new-leadership wording; it is not described as a withdrawn support letter or a promise about how a ballot will be cast.
THE PROPOSED AMSTERDAM SUMMIT
The KNVB proposes an international summit in Amsterdam for FIFA’s 211 member associations and the six confederations. It says the 2027 presidential election should be preceded by a discussion about what kind of organisation FIFA should be.
Its three stated priorities cover good governance and a better balance of power; human rights and sustainability in FIFA decision-making; and investing more of FIFA’s revenue and shared expertise back into football worldwide. The KNVB says replacing one president would not by itself be enough.
WHAT THIS DOES NOT PROVE
The statement does not name or confirm an alternative candidate, make a formal voting pledge, establish that the proposed summit has been agreed or scheduled, or determine the outcome of the 2027 election. The KNVB position is one association’s official position and is not attributed to UEFA or its other member associations.
FIFA’S COUNTERPOSITION
FIFA has defended the president’s democratic mandate and said that leadership and election processes must follow FIFA’s Statutes, democratic procedures and established governance framework. In the official FIFA materials reviewed by InFIFAntiNo on 31 August 2026, no specific public FIFA response to the KNVB statement was identified.
