UEFA said rebuilding trust had only begun. Reuters reported continuing calls for greater oversight after the plan to sell a minority stake in a new commercial entity was abandoned.

Withdrawal removed the immediate transaction. It did not answer how similarly consequential proposals should be disclosed, reviewed and approved in future.

Our assessment

The durable issue is institutional: governance rules should not depend on whether a single proposal survives. They should define the decision path before another proposal reaches the same stage.
